What we collect

Your account details (email address and password), the profile you fill in (name, date of birth, photos, and anything else you choose to add), your device location if you allow it, the messages and Taps you send inside the app, and basic technical information such as device type and when you were last active.

Some of what you may choose to add — such as sexual health status — is sensitive. It is entirely optional, and if you add it, it appears on your public profile for other signed-in members to see.

How location works

If you allow location access, your coordinates are stored in a private record that only your own account can read. They are never sent to another member and never returned by any public part of the app.

Distance between two members is worked out on our server and only a rounded number comes back, such as "0.8 mi away". Anything very close is shown simply as "Less than 0.5 mi away". You can switch distance off entirely under Settings, Privacy.

Photos

Photos are stored privately and shown through short-lived links. Anyone signed in to Tappd can see the photos on your public profile. Private album photos are only shown to members you choose.

Who sees your information

Other members see your profile, your approximate distance (unless you turn it off), and whether you are online. They never see your email address, your password, or your exact location.

We use trusted service providers to host the app, store files, send notifications, and process payments. They only handle data on our instructions. We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information when the law requires it, or when we believe it is needed to prevent serious harm.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we use them to tell you about new messages, Taps, and activity nearby. You can turn any of these off in Settings, or switch them off for Tappd in your phone or browser settings.

How long we keep things

We keep your account information while your account is open. If you delete your account we remove your profile and photos, though we may keep a limited record where we need it for safety, fraud prevention, or legal reasons.

Your choices

You can edit or remove almost everything on your profile at any time, turn distance off, turn notifications off, block or report other members, and close your account. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it — contact support and we will help.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit and per-account access rules on our database. No service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password.
